Mission Statement . . .
The College Woman's Club serves the general interests of the community by furthering the higher education of women.
The College Woman's Club of Westfield was founded in 1917 with a charter membership of 36 women who were all college graduates (a rare distinction then!) and organized "to serve the higher education of women."
To accomplish these goals, we award scholarships to deserving young women who live in the Westfield area, as selected by our own Scholarship Committee.
We raise funds through annual dues (entirely tax-deductible) and fund-raising events such as the annual Theater Party. Every dues-paying member makes a significant contribution toward furthering the higher education of women. We welcome contributions to our Scholarship and Memorial Funds from anyone (member, non-member, corporation, foundation, business) who endorses our goals.
An annual directory of club members including a listing of the club's events is provdied to each dues-paid member. Club activities take place from October to May.
Newsletters listing upcoming events, new members, letters from the President, and other topical items are distributed five times annually.
Our activities include stimulating and varied programs. Meetings are held on the first Tuesday in October, December, March and April. A Social Hour follows each meeting. Meeting location and time is announced in the newsletter and in the local newspapers. The Scholarship Din-ner and Annual Meeting is held on the second Tuesday evening in May at the Echo Lake Country Club when the scholarship winners (and their parents) are introduced and officers are elected. This is the climax of our year!
Socially, we host a Get Acquainted/ Reacquainted Coffee in the Fall. We sponsor small interest groups which meet in member's homes. These include such diverse themes as art appreciation, books, bridge, dinner discussion, golf and international cuisine. New groups may form at any time to accommodate a new area of interest. We arrange bus excursions to museums, Broadway plays, and other cultural destinations of interest.
Members determine their own level of activity in our organization.
