COMPREHENSIVE FAMILY LIVING, HEALTH & SAFETY,
AND DRUG EDUCATION CURRICULUM
The goals listed below are specified identified for the grades K-5 Comprehensive Family Living, Health and Safety, and Drug Education Curriculum. The objectives and the content for each of these goals are taught to the children in a somewhat spiral fashion as the children mature. Any overlap is intended to help build upon the prior year's instruction and reinforce some of the more basic concepts. The ten goals for students' learning are:
To develop positive feelings about one's self and others
To develop an awareness and appreciation of that knowledge and of those practices necessary to maintain a healthy body
To understand that different rates of human growth and development are normal and natural, and occur with a predictable sequence of events
To develop a gradually maturing attitude about sexuality and its role in our personal growth
To demonstrate an understanding of the causes of disease, the prevention of disease through healthful living and food habits, and the relationship of heredity and environment in life
To develop an awareness of accident prevention and learn procedures for emergency care
To recognize that each person has a shared responsibility for protecting the environment by fighting pollution
To learn proper safety practices and procedures
