We have assigned emergency contact homeroom mothers to each first period class. As a reminder, these volunteers will only be calling you in the event of a district or school wide emergency. We will not be calling for weather related school closings. School closing information will be e-mailed to you via the PTSO news, and the Flash.
It is also available on our website, www.westfieldnj.com/eis , and on channel 36.

WELCOME TO THE EDISON PTSO

We would like to welcome you to the 2003-2004 school year. Edison Intermediate School has a very active PTSO. Thanks to all who took the time to return the volunteer interest sheet. Copies of our volunteer form are available on the Edison Intermediate School website- www.westfieldnj.com/eis . Special thanks to Sharon Degel, our webmaster, for maintaining Edison’s terrific website. Please check out the site when you get a chance.

The PTSO will be hosting a Welcome Back Coffee for parents on the second day of school (Thursday Sept.4) at 8:30am in the cafeteria. We hope to see you there.

On September 8th a 6th grade parent roundtable will be held at 7pm in the Teacher’s Lounge at Edison. The 7th grade parent roundtable is scheduled for Oct.14 and the 8th grade parent roundtable, Oct.21st.
These chats with the principal are a great opportunity to ask Mrs.
O’Brien questions and discuss topics of concern with other parents.

Our only fundraiser of the year, the Magazine Sale, runs from September 24-October 16. Through this program, you will be able to purchase new magazines and renew old subscriptions. Thanks in advance to Sheri Cognetti and Michelle Lynes who will be co-chairing this committee.

Don’t forget to mark your calendars for the first PTSO meeting of the
year- October 9th at 7pm when we will be hosting Family Pasta Night and Peer Leadership program in the cafeteria. Reservation forms will be available soon.

Merry Wisler has taken on the huge job of coordinating the Edison School Directory this year. By now, all 6th grade parents should have returned their directory forms to the school. (Copies of the form are located on the website.) Once the directory form is completed and signed in 6th grade, it is good for the three years your child is at the school. There is no need to submit the form again if your child is in 7th or 8th grade unless there has been a change in your address, telephone number or e-mail.

Thank you to all of the parents who volunteered to be homeroom mothers. As you have probably noticed, this year your child has been assigned to a homeroom with his/her first period class. We will again be assigning emergency contact moms to each homeroom but these moms will no longer be calling for weather/snow closings as this information is now readily available on the website, channel 36, and on radio station NJ101.5 (FM). This phone chain will only be used for notification in the event of a school wide emergency situation. These lists will be distributed to the volunteer homeroom moms within the first few weeks of school. A few homerooms do not have emergency contact moms; if you can lend a hand (and you haven’t already signed up to be a caller) please let us know.

Thanks for your support and have a great school year!
