Programs 2007 - 2008 Girl Scout Year Saturday May 24th, 2008 Spend the day discovering, learning, and playing in the out-of-doors at Camp Lou Henry Hoover. Girls and adults will participate in games, a hike, arts and crafts, a nature activity, a campfire and more. This is a great way to introduce Daisy Scouts, their leaders and parents to Camp Hoover. Lunch, dinner and snacks will be provided for you. The theme for the workshops this weekend is basically relaxation: nail clinic, scrap booking, cooking baking, arts and crafts, games and more. The training will include information on prerequisites, required time line, planning the project, and project approval. This workshop is required before a girl can get her project approved. Previous trips have included a trek through the Costa Rican rainforest, backpacking through Teton National Park and surfing in Cape Cod. Many events include both service and adventure activities. Participants are selected from across the country. destinations are an excellent chance for you to experience leadership, responsibility and travel. Beach Jam is a weekend long camping event at Morey’s Piers in Wildwood, NJ. Come with your troop and wake up each morning to the beautiful Atlantic Ocean crashing at your doorstep. Spend your day enjoying live entertainment, amusement rides, beach bonfires, and an oceanography workshop. This event is open to 6th grade Junior, Cadette and Senior Girl Scouts. The event fee includes round trip transportation to Wildwood, NJ, unlimited admission to Morey’s Piers amusement rides, 3 catered meals, unlimited boardwalk tram rides and beach camping. Troops will be responsible for supplying their own camping gear, admission fees for events outside of the package and any additional food. This is a rain or shine event. Full payment is due at time of registration.

Thursday, March 20, 2008 During this one-day event, girls interact with Microsoft employees and managers to gain exposure to careers in business and technology and to get an inside look at what it's like to work at Microsoft. This exciting event provides girls with career planning assistance, information about technology and business roles, thought-provoking exercises, and interesting Microsoft product demonstrations. By participating in the Microsoft DigiGirlz Day, young women can find out about the variety of opportunities available in the high-tech industry and can explore future career paths. Lunch will be provided. Transportation will be provided from the Council Service Center. Wednesday, March 5th, 2008 In 2007, roughly, 178,480 women in the United States will be found to have invasive breast cancer (American Cancer Society). Cadette and Senior Girl Scouts are invited to Overlook Hospital in Summit, NJ to learn about breast cancer prevention and awareness. During this workshop you will find out about breast health including, how to do a self breast exam and the importance of mammograms. In addition, you’ll get the chance to meet and speak with nurses, radiologists and surgeons, as well as tour the breast imaging center at the hospital. By participating in this program, you will earn the In The Pink IP. Light refreshments will be provided. Transportation will not be provided.
