Daisy Day

Saturday May 24th, 2008

Spend the day discovering, learning, and playing in the out-of-doors at Camp Lou Henry Hoover.  Girls and adults will participate in games, a hike, arts and crafts, a nature activity, a campfire and more.  This is a great way to introduce Daisy Scouts, their leaders and parents to Camp Hoover.  Lunch is provided for all participants.  This program is run by the Camp Department.  Troops must have at least one adult per four girls.  Transportation is not included.

Hoover Fun Day – Scouts of All Ages and their Families

Here’s your chance to spend a day at the 340-acre facility in Sussex County.  You and your family are invited to spend a day in the outdoors.  The full facilities of the camp will be available for your use and all you need to bring is yourself and your love of the outdoors!!!  Arts and Crafts, Ropes Course, boating hiking, use of Townley Hall, the Nature Cabin, the playfield and a campfire at 4:00 pm with s’mores will make for a fun filled day.  A picnic lunch included.

Come to Camp Lou Henry Hoover and spend the day earning Senses, Me and My Shadow, and Numbers and Shapes Try It patches.  Bring a brown bag lunch and then join us for a campfire and snack at the end of the day.  All materials and Try-Its will be provided.  This program is run by the Camp Department.  Transportation is not included.

Junior Weekend

Here is your chance to learn about basic First Aid, and to make the right choices about fun exercises and learn about a fitness routine.  In addition you will use clay to make beautiful art.  During this weekend program Junior Scouts can earn First Aid, Fun and Fit and Ceramics and clay badges.  Plus we will have a campfire with a sing along in the evening.  This program is run by the Camp Department.  Transportation is not included.

 Junior Get Away

If the outdoors is your thing then this two day stay at Camp Hoover is for you.  During your stay, you will earn the Outdoor Cook, Outdoor Creativity, and Small Craft badges.  In addition, you will stay in one of our modern buildings and have a campfire with a sing along in the evening.  This program is run by the Camp Department.  Transportation is not included

Girl Scout Pajama Weekend (All Scouts Ages 11 – 17)

This is a great opportunity to spend time with other girls from GSWRC.  Plan on spending the entire weekend in your pj pants and have fun hanging out with other scouts.  Each troop or group is responsible for their own breakfast food on Saturday and Sunday.  Lunch, dinner and snacks will be provided for you.  The theme for the workshops this weekend is basically relaxation:  nail clinic, scrap booking, cooking baking, arts and crafts, games and more.  Relax, have fun and have a comfortable weekend.  This program is run by the Camp Department.  Transportation is not included.

Dad and Me Day (Daisies, Brownies and Juniors)

This fun filled day event will be packed with activities that the Dad and Me can do together.  “Dad” can be any male adult over the age of 18.  A variety of activities will be planned including a campfire, games, hiking, boating, ropes course, s’mores and more!  This is a great way for dad and daughter to spend a day at Camp Lou Henry Hoover.  All materials, lunch and a patch are included.  This program is run by the camp department.  Transportation is not included.

Gold Award Prep Nights

This workshop focuses on the procedures a girl must follow to “Go for the Gold”.  The training will include information on prerequisites, required time line, planning the project, and project approval. This workshop is required before a girl can get her project approved.  This workshop is for girls in grades 9-12. Leaders, advisors and parents may attend but must register as space is limited.

destinations Orientation

Do you want to discover yourself and connect with the world? Then take action and uncover what the destinations program has to offer. destinations is your chance to go somewhere new, do something different, and meet people from everywhere you can imagine. destinations (previously known as Wider Ops), are special travel events for girls in grades 7-12 thorough out the United States and around the globe. Previous trips have included a trek through the Costa Rican rainforest, backpacking through Teton National Park and surfing in Cape Cod. Many events include both service and adventure activities. Participants are selected from across the country. destinations are an excellent chance for you to experience leadership, responsibility and travel. To find out more about destinations and the application process come out to the orientation. Leaders, advisors and parents may attend but must register as space is limited.

Cadette Senior Planning Committee

The Cadette Senior Planning Committee is a group of teen Girl Scouts who come together and give feedback to GSWRC to ensure that the “girl” stays in Girl Scouting. If you are looking for a leadership opportunity, interested in representing Girl Scouting in your community and council, want to lead Girl Scouts in the right direction and can work hard and play hard, then this is for you! As a member, you will attend Cadette Senior planning meetings, give input on girl issues at large and provide input on council programming and publications. The planning committee is open to all Cadette and Senior Girl Scouts. Leaders, advisors and parents may not attend. The Committee will meet three times throughout the year. Your Best Defense

Saturday, November 17th, 2007

Protect yourself with your brains as well as your brawn! At this intensive four hour workshop, Cadette and Senior Girl Scouts will learn basic self defense principals while earning the Your Best Defense IP. During this workshop girls will learn how to defuse conflict before it starts, learn about various social service careers and participate in a self defense class led by Master Harry O. Baker, Jr. of the Iron Dragon Kenpo Academy. In order to successfully complete the IP, a service related post-requisite will be required. Lunch will be provided. Transportation is not included. This program has been brought to you by the Cadette Senior Planning Committee.

Artistic Crafts: Glass Art

Under the direction of a professional artist, Cadette and Senior Girl Scouts will learn about various kinds of glass art including, fusing and slumping glass. You will get hands on experience as you make your very own slumped bowl or dish. By attending this workshop you will complete the following requirements for the Artistic Crafts IP: Skill Builders 1, 4, Career Exploration 1, 2. Transportation is not provided. This program brought to you by the Cadette Senior Planning Committee.

Graphic Communications

Cadette and Senior Girl Scouts, find out what graphic communications is all about! This program emphasizes the “Communication” aspect of printed media. Girls will silkscreen a tee shirt, design a personal logo and stationary, design a magazine page and have a technology discussion. Please bring one plain white tee shirt per girl or purchase one for $3.50 from the instructor. By attending this program you will complete the following requirements for the Graphic Communications IP: Skill Builders 1, 4, 5, Service 4, Technology 3, and Career 2. Meals and transportation are not provided.

Product Sales represent a key component of the Girl Scout program. It teaches girls a variety of skills including: goal setting, marketing, finance management, budgeting, networking and much more. The Girl Scout product sales are consistently cited by successful women as the single most confidence-building program they engaged in during their time as a Girl Scout. In fact, girls who attended the 2006 edition of Cookie College sold an average of 100 more boxes of cookies than the general Girl Scout population.

This year, Brownies will be able to earn the Smart Cookie Try-It, Juniors will be able to complete requirements towards the Cookie Biz Badge and Cadettes and Seniors will be able to earn the Cookies and Dough IPP.

Beach Jam   CANCELLED

Do you ever dream about camping on the beach? Then this is your chance!

Beach Jam is a weekend long camping event at Morey’s Piers in Wildwood, NJ. Come with your troop and wake up each morning to the beautiful Atlantic Ocean crashing at your doorstep. Spend your day enjoying live entertainment, amusement rides, beach bonfires, and an oceanography workshop. This event is open to 6th grade Junior, Cadette and Senior Girl Scouts. The event fee includes round trip transportation to Wildwood, NJ, unlimited admission to Morey’s Piers amusement rides, 3 catered meals, unlimited boardwalk tram rides and beach camping. Troops will be responsible for supplying their own camping gear, admission fees for events outside of the package and any additional food. This is a rain or shine event. Full payment is due at time of registration.

DigiGirlz Day @ Microsoft

During this one-day event, girls interact with Microsoft employees and managers to gain exposure to careers in business and technology and to get an inside look at what it's like to work at Microsoft. This exciting event provides girls with career planning assistance, information about technology and business roles, thought-provoking exercises, and interesting Microsoft product demonstrations. By participating in the Microsoft DigiGirlz Day, young women can find out about the variety of opportunities available in the high-tech industry and can explore future career paths. Lunch will be provided. Transportation will be provided from the Council Service Center. In The Pink

In 2007, roughly, 178,480 women in the United States will be found to have invasive breast cancer (American Cancer Society). Cadette and Senior Girl Scouts are invited to Overlook Hospital in Summit, NJ to learn about breast cancer prevention and awareness. During this workshop you will find out about breast health including, how to do a self breast exam and the importance of mammograms. In addition, you’ll get the chance to meet and speak with nurses, radiologists and surgeons, as well as tour the breast imaging center at the hospital. By participating in this program, you will earn the In The Pink IP. Light refreshments will be provided. Transportation will not be provided. This program is being graciously sponsored by Overlook Hospital.

Girl Scout Days at Six Flags Great Adventure

Saturday, April 26 or Sunday, April 27, 2008.

Join fellow Girl Scouts from across the state in a day of full of wild rides, games, and fun at Six Flags Great Adventure! This event is open to all Girl Scouts, their troops, families, and friends. Each participant will receive a one day regular combined theme park and wild safari ticket, access to program activities and an all you can eat buffet lunch. Transportation is not included. The event occurs rain or shine. Children 2 yrs and under are free.

Come explore the outdoors at Watchung Reservation during Junior Outdoor Day.  Junior Girl Scouts will have the opportunity to work towards the requirements of two badges, Finding Your Way and Your Outdoor Surroundings.  Remember to bring a sack lunch.  There will also be a free training for adults: Outdoors for Dummies.
