Westfield Lecture Series Announces its New Season Schedule
An Academy Award-winning film-maker and a distinguished officer at the United Nations are among the four speakers who will take part in this year's Westfield Lecture Series. The Series, which attracted a large and devoted following during its first season last year, begins this season with a lecture on October 7.
The lectures will be held at 7:30 on Thursday evenings in the Parish House of the Presbyterian Church, 140 Mountain Avenue in Westfield. Refreshments will follow. Admission is $5 ($3 for seniors).
On Thursday, October 7, at 7:30, Jean Bernard Gazarian, an officer at the United Nations since its inception over 50 years ago, will appear. His talk, entitled "Tales from the United Nations," will include affectionate and amusing anecdotes about world leaders he has known over the past five decades. It will also include observations about the importance of the U.N.
On Thursday, November 18, at 7:30, Beverly Shaffer, an Oscar-winning film-maker, will talk about her experiences as a director and show clips from her films. The event, entitled "A Film-maker and her Films," will include portions from her Oscar-winning film, I'll Find a Way, about a charming disabled girl, and from her most recent film, Just a Wedding.
On Thursday, February 10, at 7:30, Dr. Michael L. Mazzarese will present a talk entitled "If Aristotle Ran General Motors". Dr. Mazzarese, who runs his own executive coaching practice, will discuss models that are used for making ethical business decisions. He will also engage the audience in a discussion about values and choices.
On Thursday, April 13, at 7:30, architect and architectural author Susan Doubilet will discuss and show slides of twentieth century landmark houses. The talk, "Changing Directions in Modern Architecture," will show how the architecture of this century has represented a search for liberated expression.
