| What is the League of Women Voters? |
The League of Women Voters
is a non-partisan, political, grassroots volunteer
organization. It does not support nor endorse any political party or candidate.
It is issues oriented.
It is a national organization which arose in 1920 from
the womens' suffrage movement. 2000 is its 80th Anniversary! It
operates on a national, state and local level. It examines issues and takes
action based on the votes of its grass roots membership on those issues.
The League's all-encompassing goal is the education
of the public on issues and on the importance of each citizen's involvement
in the political process in order for democracy to work
Membership is open to anyone of voting age.
The Westfield Area League encompasses the communities
of WESTFIELD, SCOTCH PLAINS, FANWOOD AND MOUNTAINSIDE.
