The Musical Club of Westfield, now in its 86th year, is an organization devoted to fostering and encouraging good music, providing opportunities for performance, and supporting college music scholarships. Memberships are in two categories: active members, and non-active associate members.

During the 2003-2004 season the Musical Club is supporting scholarships, given to gifted high school students from Westfield and surrounding communities. These students wish to pursue their music studies at the college level. If you have knowledge of anyone who could benefit from these scholarships, please contact Helene Frieland at (908) 232-7414, or Sondra Tammam at (908) 233-6667.

An important aspect of the Musical Club's work is sponsorship of a very active and exceptional Junior Musical Club, which is composed of high school musicians. The advisors for this group are Dariel Belcher, (908) 233-0759 and D. J. Sellers, (908) 233-6825.

Musical Club meetings are held in members' homes or in the sanctuary of the First Baptist Church of Westfield which allows the use of their organ and/or a Steinway piano given to the Club by the late Mrs. Janet Grimler Gleason.

In May of each year the Musical Club assists in town-wide observance of National Music Week, founded by Charles M. Tremaine, a long time resident of Westfield. The Club presents a special evening concert and arranges displays in local libraries on chosen themes (such as "Music Gives Value to Life").
