The Optimist CreedPromise Yourself- To be so strong that nothing can disturb your peace of mind. To talk health, happiness and prosperity to every person you meet. To make all your friends feel that there is something in them. To look at the sunny side of everything and make your optimism come true. To think only of the best, to work only for the best, and to expect only the best. To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others as you are about your own. To forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future. To wear a cheerful countenance at all times and give every living creature you meet a smile. To give so much time to the improvement of yourself that you have no time to criticize others. To be too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for fear, and too happy to permit the presence of trouble |

Optimist International Clubs are groups of volunteers who do community service projects focused on bringing out the best in kids. There are more than 105,000 Optimist Club members worldwide, in about 3,200 autonomous Clubs. The Optimist Club of Westfield was founded in 1989 and is one of the most active in New Jersey. We currently have about 60 members. We do a number of projects each year, sometimes in conjunction with the Westfield Recreation Commission or the Westfield YMCA. As an example, our flagship project is the BASH, an all-night substance-free party for the graduating class of Westfield High School. As well as our service projects, we also enjoy social events together. We meet monthly for dinner and to hear an interesting speaker at Ferraro’s Restaurant, and we have a number of fun events, such as a progressive dinner, a Classic Thyme cooking extravaganza, poker and billiards nights, and group attendance at jazz evenings and baseball games. Optimist club members can choose to take part in as few or as many projects and social events as they desire. |
