Boy Scouts of America Troop 273 Westfield New Jersey Patriots Path Council

We are a fun-loving scout troop. While we devote time each scout meeting to learning skills, we also schedule time for active group play and sports.

We are the oldest continuously-meeting scout troop in Westfield. Troop 273 was founded in 1921. Dr. Eric Deutchman ("Dr. D."), our scout master, has been with the troop since he was a boy. Our troop has 16 members ranging from Tenderfoot to Life (with several approaching Eagle). We have two patrols (the Iron Penguins and the Rabid Wombats), and Assistant Patrol Leaders rotate so all scouts gain leadership experience.

We meet Monday evenings from 7:30 to 9pm at Jefferson School, located at 1200 Boulevard between Landsdowne Avenue and Clover Street. Our troop has boys from all over Westfield.

Meetings this year generally follow this format:

• 7:30 - 7:45 Opening Ceremony and announcements
• 7:45 - 8:10 Rank advancement lead by older scouts or trip planning
• 8:10 - 8:30 Merit badge work (typically 2 alternate badges at a time)
• 8:30 - 8:55 Game (we are a fun-loving troop!)
• 8:55 - 9:00 Closing and announcements

We welcome new members, and invite anyone considering joining the troop to contact Mike Wolski, or simply to come out to a meeting. Both fathers and mothers, as well as other adults interested in scouting, are welcome to participate in all aspects of the troop, including meetings, our monthly camping trips, and troop administration.

Fundraising: Aluminum

Our troop raises money for purchasing equipment solely through selling aluminum. If you can donate aluminum cans or other aluminum objects, please contact Eric Deutchman by email or at (908) 233-0610.
