Community Service

This year's projects in the area of Community Service include:

Adopt-a-Family: Each year the Club receives the name of a needy family in the area from Human Services in Westfield and provides them with the basic necessities they need each month. Items include cereal, rice, potatoes, pasta, dish washing liquid, soap, etc. Each member brings the same one or two items the family needs on a regular basis to each monthly Business meeting. The items are then delivered to Human Services and given to the family.

We also provide the family with a special dinner basket - a full dinner with all the trimmings, in addition to the monthly items, for the holidays of Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter. Everyone brings their holiday specialty for the family to enjoy!

Spelling Bee: Each year the Club holds a Spelling Bee in January for the 4th and 5th graders who live in Westfield. Five winners are chosen to compete in the District Spelling Bee in February where they compete with other children from the surrounding towns. Those winners move on to the State Spelling Bee. Members serve as judges, announcers and ushers for the event.

Scholarship Fund: Each year the Club gives college scholarships to one or two Westfield seniors. Scholarship recipients are chosen based upon academic record, extra-curricular activities including community involvement, and financial need. This Fund is financed through several minor fund-raisers held throughout the year.

Shopping Fundraiser: Each year the Club receives the name of one or two children in need of new clothes. Using money raised from a holiday shopping fundraiser we provide gift cards to their favorites stores.

Habitat for Humanity: Each year the Club helps out Habitat for Humanity, which is a national non-profit organization that brings families and communities together with volunteers and resources to build affordable housing.

Dress for Success: Each year the Club collects gently used women’s business clothing to donate to a non-profit organization that serves women entering or re-entering the job market.

Children’s Specialized Hospital Toy Drive: Each year the Club helps out with sorting and wrapping of holiday presents for the children of the hospital.

Coat Drive: Each year the Club collects gently used coats at the library to donate to a local charity.
